Jeff Galloway 13.1, Half Marathon, Ambassador

I had some fun today taking some portraits in my Jeff Galloway 13.1 t-shirts and medals. The first Jeff Galloway half marathon was in 2014 and I've done the race every year as a virtual participant. As a virtual participant you can sign up for the race and clock it on your own watch/gps/mile tracker and then submit your results. Then you receive your t-shirt and medal in the mail. So that's what I did 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.

This year I'll be at the race in Atlanta, in person, for year 5! I'm so excited to be an Ambassador for the 2018 Jeff Galloway 13.1. You can use my code: ambassador18 when you sign up (www.JeffGalloway131.com) and you'll get 10% off your race entry.

I have followed Jeff Galloway's running training since my Dad coached me in track and cross country starting back in the 80's. My Dad still has Jeff's first edition Galloway Book on Running that came out in 1984, and that's the book he used to coach me. I have so many wonderful memories training and running with my Dad. Jeff Galloway has been a big influence on our lives which makes it even more special to get to meet him in person in December at the race. And to be an Ambassador!!! Well, I'm over the moon and around the sunshine excited about it!!! That excited y'all!

Below are photos of my t-shirts and medals from each year. Follow me on Instagram (@JennKL), I post more there about training and weekly runs. Also, I highly recommend the book I mentioned and linked to above, Galloway Book on Running

New Section on the Blog! Healthy Life!

I decided to add a "Healthy Life" section to my blog to share things I've learned and have put into practice along the way to losing weight (40+ pounds), getting in shape (mentally and physically) and trying my best to live an all around healthy life. *I am not a Doctor, I'm just sharing things that have worked for me. Please do research and consult with your Doctor for things you will implement in your own life.*

The reason for this new section...since I lost 40 pounds this past year (you can read more about that here) some of my family and friends have asked me how I'm doing it (it's a journey that continues) and what are some great, healthy recipes. So under the "Healthy Life" tab of my blog you can find a log of things I'm trying and that have helped me...hopefully lots of inspiration. I also added a few resources for you at the bottom of this post.

I also keep pretty regular fun updates on Instagram...which I really just started using a few days ago.

So here's a start...Recipe #1! Yay!

Let's call it Delightful Fresh Vegan Summer Salad (also amazing in the winter, just had it, LOVE IT)

The quick iPhone photo below shows a delicious meal I made by just combining things I love. I like to make a big batch for throughout week. The only cooked ingredient is the quinoa. Put the quinoa in the fridge to cool after cooking. Mix in separate bowl a few cups of cherry tomatoes sliced, 2 cloves garlic crushed, chopped green onion, few cucumbers peeled and cubed, fresh squeezed juice from one lemon, tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, Himalayan sea salt, pepper...mix and then stir everything in with the quinoa. Add 1/2 sliced avocado on the side to your serving. YUM!

I'd love to hear from you in the comments below. Share what healthy life goals you're working on, some yummy recipes you love.

Weight Loss, Before and After! A new me! Self Portraits!

Happy 2014 to you all! I thought I'd start the year out with experimenting with some self portraits. Over the past 14 months I lost 40 pounds through plant-based eating and exercise. I feel so much better and wanted to celebrate this accomplishment of losing weight with some portraits. I finally feel like myself again and didn't realize how much the extra weight had an impact on all areas of my life. I feel alive and happy again. When I see people that I haven't seen since I lost weight they always ask  - what did you do? The very short answer. The Beauty Detox Solution by Kimberly Snyder (both books) and Thrive by Brendan Brazier, Walking/Biking half hour average 4 days week, using this app on my phone mynetdiary.com to track calories and weight loss, etc. I started the whole get healthy program because I felt real yucky. So I removed things from my diet that I thought could be causing problems and went from there. When I stick with it and feel my best I stick with pretty much a vegan plan/plant-based diet and I haven't had any alcohol in almost 10 months. But be sure there are days/weeks over the past year when I ate lots of cake, dairy, pans of cookies and then I'd feel not so great again and the weight loss would stop so I'd get back on the vegan/plant-based plan and what felt best to me. I have even more goals this year to continue with this healthy lifestyle and am looking forward to sharing parts of the journey.

Love and health to you!

So here's my self portrait of a 40 pound lighter me and I also chopped my hair and got glasses for the first time...so lots of changes

I debated putting this before and after up because it's hard for me to admit how heavy I became - not fun for me to look at either because I can see how sad I felt in addition to being overweight. I was an athlete in high school - track, basketball, dance team - and always in shape from all the daily exercising and healthy food my parents would prepare. I'm excited to be getting back to that way of life and be a healthy-eating-athlete once again! Signing up for a 5K in Feb/March and can't wait! All I can say is just start. Start today if you need a change and want to feel better. Eating healthy foods and exercising has completely changed my life...every single area from personal to business is getting better. I wish the same for you. Now having been on both sides - going from athlete to overweight/poor diet and working my way back to a healthy lifestyle - I can personally say that food and exercise are the answer.

Even in Paradise...

While out for a walk this morning, I saw the flower below and actually had the thought "is that flower crying?" So I took a photo and figured...

If you ever catch yourself looking around and thinking how "great" it is for someone else, they've made it, they have it all, etc.,...remember nobody has a perfect life. No matter how pretty it looks from the outside. We all have down days here and there. Probably more helpful to look around and think we're all in this together and what can we do to have most days be up days.
