What should I wear for my portrait session?

This is always one of the first questions asked when someone books a portrait session. What should I wear?  My recommendation is to always dress in whatever makes you feel fabulous and represents you and your individual style best. Whether it’s for individual portraits, family portraits or business headshots…wear what you like. What you feel great in. Period.

If it is a family portrait session, complimentary colors are nice…say burgundy, navy blue, deep green, browns…have fun and mix and match.  Solid colors are always a good choice, clean and simple.  I am a big fan of lots of color, the more expressive the better.

You don’t always have to be matchy-match.  But, if you do choose to match, try and be creative and have the textures and styles be different.

A good thing to avoid… stripes, busy patterns and logos.  You want the focus to be you and if you’re wearing some busy pattern it draws the attention away from you.  Stripes sometimes cause a weird blurring effect, slight aberration.  And logos are simply an unnecessary distraction.

What is your favorite style to wear?  What is your favorite color to wear?

Below are some portraits of what I think are great examples of clothing for a portrait session…

An example of nice, complimentary colors, but still representing their own individual style from a recent engagement session.

I love this, everyone is wearing something completely different and I think it really shows their different personalities during a recent newborn and family portrait session.

Sweet that mother and baby are dressed in pure white.

Like I mentioned above, I love color and think it really makes a portrait stand out, especially for business portraits like below.  Plus it’s great for the energy and skin tone of the person in the portrait.

A great example from a recent family portrait session of how to mix textures and styles if you want to wear the same colors.  I love the sparkles of the mother’s blouse contrasted with the dad’s button-up dress shirt.

Why are my digital files not included, FREE or inexpensive???

I often get asked about whether or not the digital files are included with a portrait session and it can sometimes be an awkward conversation.  I just came across an article on this exact subject.  You can read the article by clicking here, which I think is a great explanation of why digital files are not included, FREE or inexpensive, especially when working with a boutique photographer.  The blog I linked to above is written by a baby photographer, but I think it applies to all photography areas…family portraits, weddings, children, etc.

Working with me is a completely different experience than you would get from a turn and burn photographer, by turn and burn, I mean someone who snaps the images and dumps the files off to you.  I love to get to know my clients and take special care and time into making sure we get images that really show who they and their family are.

Some benefits of working with me, a boutique wedding and family photographer:

1) I always do a pre shoot consultation in person, over the phone or via email (really a matter of client’s choice)

2) I am here to answer any questions throughout the entire process and the more we connect, the more I love it.  It just helps to get even better photographs.

3) I come to you for the shoot and a session will last anywhere from 1-2 hours. I stay until you and I feel like we “got the shots”

4) You will get a sneak peek, usually the day after the shoot of my favorites from our session.

5) I create a custom, password protected gallery for you to view, share and order images from.

6) Gorgeous images that have gone through thorough editing, retouching and artistic enhancement.

7) You get a post shoot consultation either over the phone or at your home to go over the best way to display your new artwork and what products would showcase your images best.

8)A monthly newsletter with specials

These are just a few things that you will experience, not to mention the result of amazing photographs each their very own piece of artwork.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts…

Fun Family Portraits

I love, love, love meeting new families.  And, of course I love photographing all families:-).  The images below are from a recent family portrait session.  We had such a great time. To me it was the perfect shoot.  We just hung out for a few hours together, talked, got to know each other and I captured the love and fun between them.  We started at their beautiful home and then took a walk down to the local park.  Enjoy this creative, fun and silly family.
